5 Signs it is Time for Window Replacement This Spring

While it may not feel like spring just yet, it is safe to start preparing your home for the warmer weather that is just around the corner. One popular home improvement this time of year is window replacement in Hillsboro, OR. But how do you know if your windows are ready for replacement? Here are a few telltale signs to watch for this spring:

1. Drafts and Air Leaks

While it is cold it is easier to notice significant air leaks. Certain rooms always feel colder. Or you might notice a significant temperature change when you are near a window. These broken windows can cost you countless dollars on your utility bill. In fact, you could be losing more than 25% of your home’s energy right out the window. It can add up fast, especially when summer hits or winter comes back around again. It is better to get these windows replaced sooner rather than later.

2. Condensation between the Panes

In spring it is typical to find moisture on exterior surfaces of the glass. Mostly this isn’t cause for concern. But there are some cases when water collecting on the glass is cause for concern. It is a problem if you notice condensation forming between the panes of glass on your windows. This is a clear sign that the seals have failed and the inert gas meant to insulate the windows has leaked out. Replacement windows are the best option.

3. Signs of Moisture Damage

If you are noticing drafts and condensation you should also be on the lookout for moisture leaks. Signs include yellowing or discoloration, paint or wallpaper peeling from the walls, mold growth, or warping. You do not want water seeping into your home through the windows. You might be able to repair the damage with some fresh caulk and weather stripping. But if the leak is significant there is no quick fix. You will need to invest in new windows.

4. Old Windows

As windows age. they will eventually reach a point where they have outlived their usefulness. This generally happens around the 20 year mark They will become noisy, inefficient, and difficult to operate. At some point, you will no longer be able to make a case for keeping your old windows.

5. Lack of Curb Appeal

A lot of home improvement projects in the spring have to do with boosting curb appeal and the value of your home. Old, dilapidated windows can have a huge negative effect on how people perceive your home. Fortunately, replacement windows are highly customizable. They come in an array of styles, materials, and colors. You are sure to find something to compliment your home and boost curb appeal.
